Bendigo Maubisse Friendship Committee

The Bendigo Maubisse Friendship Committee (BMFC) is a volunteer-run community organisation that has worked in partnership with the community of Maubisse in Timor-Leste since 2006.

Our work is built on friendship, consultation, and long-term community connection. Together with our partners in Maubisse, we support programs focused on education, health, women’s health, skills development, and opportunities for young people.

BMFC is part of a broader friendship movement that grew following Timor-Leste’s independence, helping strengthen community relationships between Australia and one of our closest neighbours. In 2026, we celebrate twenty years of partnership between the Bendigo and Maubisse communities.

Over time, our partnership has evolved through shared learning, collaboration, fundraising, cultural exchange, and practical community support. Our programs include scholarships, health education, and sewing and textile initiatives. When travel conditions permit, BMFC also coordinates study tours to Timor-Leste, giving participants the opportunity to learn directly from the communities and partnerships connected to our work.

In 2025 BMFC was honoured to receive the Order of Timor-Leste Medal in recognition of the long-standing relationship between our communities and two decades of contributions from volunteers and supporters.

Activities include community events, film nights, presentations, fundraising activities, and volunteering opportunities. We welcome new members, volunteers, and supporters interested in community connection, international friendship, and making a meaningful long-term contribution.
