Ballroom dancing is in full swing

Local ballroom dancers are set to refamiliarize themselves with the Blue John Swing, the Tinker Tango and the Balmoral Blues in 2021.

That’s because the Bendigo Ballroom Dance Club has found a way to host dances while observing COVID-safe practices.

There’s the music, ambiance and friendly connections to look forward to.

But it’s the effort that goes into dancing that’s making it an essential part of COVID-normal life.

President Daryl Smallman said ballroom dancing was classified as exercise and as such was a fit even with restrictions on the size of gatherings.

The club’s adaptability meant it was able to host a dance at Marong in February, its first since COVID19 struck last year.

The event drew a crowd from far and wide in regional Victoria, only half were allowed on the floor at any one time, but all were eager to renew their love of the pastime.

Confident that regulars and guests are able to navigate the new rules, the club has released a schedule of events for this year, subject to any further lockdowns.

The club gets the word out about its monthly dances through Mid Vic Dances on Facebook
