Come along and experience a glorious performance of this choral masterpiece.
Mozart’s Requiem is a staple of classical repertoire and is regularly performed all around the world for lovers of the supreme master of classical music. On Saturday May 23rd at 2:30pm St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral Myers St, Bendigo, the Bendigo Chorale and Glen Eira City Choir will present this much-loved work. The Chorale’s long serving musical director, Elena Varshavskaya will conduct and Hugh Fullarton will play the organ. We are delighted that Lisa Robinson (soprano), Chloe James (mezzo), Nicholas Sheppard (tenor) and Christian Smith (bass) will be joining us as our soloists.
Sadly, Mozart died at the young age of 35, on 5 December 1791. As the requiem was still unfinished, Mozart’s widow Constanze, commissioned his student and disciple, Franz Xaver Süssmayr to complete it. That occurred in early 1792. This beautiful but poignant work has been hailed as a “towering, albeit enigmatic, masterpiece of the choral repertoire, often described as a perfect fusion of intense dramatic humanity and profound spiritual depth”.
We invite the Bendigo music loving public to join us in May to enjoy this great work from the revered genius, Mozart.
This concert will be repeated at St Andrew's Anglican Church 228 New St, Brighton on May 30 at 2:30
Tickets are available from gotix.com.au or at the door (EPTPOS available)
