The art exhibition is being held at Dudley House through the support of the City of Greater Bendigo Arts on View grant and Bendigo Gastronomy.
From ancient times, the olive has been venerated for the food it gives, the oil it produces and the beauty it provides in the landscape. This exhibition showcases the beauty, symbolism and myths associated with the olive tree through exploring the olive trees, wood, fruit and oil as the subject or material for the works. Acknowledging Bendigo as a Creative Region in both Arts and Gastronomy, this exhibition explores olives as food for the body and soul. Artists have been invited to produce new work which draws on their own appreciation of the olive tree, and its long association with human culture.
The official opening for the event is Friday, September 19th from 6pm at Dudley House, with the event open to the public from September 18-29, 10am-4pm daily. While entrance to the exhibition is free, a concurrent calendar of events which are running alongside will attract a small ticketing fee (from $20pp). For more information on the workshops and other events, please see www.ancientroots.art to download the calendar.
