Call for entries for Koorie Youth Flick Fest. The competition is open to all First Nations young people aged 25 and under living in Central Victoria

About Event

The competition is open to all First Nations young people aged 25 and under living in Central Victoria. There will be TWO winners for the best short film, each awarded a prize of $1000. 
The competition opens to entries from January 2024, and close 5pm on Monday, 6th May 2024. 

TO ENTER:
1. Complete the application form in hardcopy or online via www.yobendigo.com.au by Monday 6th May 2024.
2. Submit your film please email it across to Fiona Machin at f.machin@bendigo.vic.gov.au. Alternative to email, this can be done electronically via an online transfer such as www.dropbox.com or Google Drive or by dropping in a USB with the file. You can drop a USB off to YO Bendigo at 45 Mundy Street.
All films must be received by midnight on Monday 6th May.

 COMPETITION GUIDELINES:
The Koorie Youth Flick Fest is open to all Aboriginal young people aged 25 and under living in Central Victoria                     

Each person can only enter one film to the competition       
There will be TWO winners awarded
Each winner will be awarded a prize of $1000

The competition will be judged by a panel including local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and community members, plus a local filmmaker as an industry representative. The decision of the judging panel is final – no correspondence will be entered regarding film selections and prize winners
 

  • Films can be shot and edited using any device, such as a smart phone, tablet or camera and with any. software or app you prefer e.g. IMovie, Canva, Capcut, Adobe Premiere. 
  • Films must be no longer than 3 minutes.​​​​​​
  • The film must focus on the theme “Our Generation" but this theme can be told or explored in any way. 
  • Your film must be suitable for screening up to PG classification (see www.classification.gov.au/classification ratings).  This means that the film may contain language and themes that are mild in impact and which may require the guidance of parents, teachers or guardians.

The judging panel are looking for films highlighting story-telling, creativity, originality and for stories that meet the theme of “Our Generation”.

The 2024 Koorie Youth Flick Fest winners will be announced at a special event during the Central Victorian Indigenous Film Festival (as part of National Reconciliation Week celebrations). This event provides an opportunity to acknowledge the winners and celebrate everyone who submitted films to the competition. All applicants, family, friends and other supporters will be invited to attend this free celebration.
